Tech Tips (by ALLDATA): Santa Fe with no throttle response – mil on
TECH TIPS (courtesy of ALL DATA)
Vehicle: 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, V6-3.5L, Automatic Transmission
Mileage: 155, 778
Problem: The vehicle came into the shop with the check engine light on. The tech connected a scan tool and pulled the two codes listed below. He also test-drove the vehicle to confirm that the engine had no throttle response. It did not.
- P1118 – ETS Motor Malfunction
- P1178, NO Throttle Response
Details: The tech checked the power and grounds to the ETS Control Module and found no power to the ETS control module. Next, he traced the power circuit from the module back to the Fail Safety Relay. The power and ground were present at the relay. After testing the relay, it was found to be defective.
Confirmed Repair: The tech replaced the Fail Safety Relay. After the repair, he cleared the codes and rechecked the vehicle. The power circuit was restored to the ETS control module. He test-drove the vehicle and the engine ran great with plenty of throttle response. The MIL stayed off and the DTCs did not return.
