For 15 years, Roy Schnepper, AMAM, has been a steadfast leader on the Automotive Service Association (ASA) Board, making him the longest-serving board member in the organization’s history. Throughout his tenure, Schnepper has guided ASA through industry challenges, helped shape initiatives and strengthened the association’s role in advocating for repairers. His deep commitment and passion for giving back have impacted ASA and the automotive industry.

A Lifetime of Dedication to the Collision Industry

Schnepper is the president and owner of Butler’s Collision Inc. in Roseville, Michigan, a family business serving the Metro Detroit area for over 40 years. With more than 45 years in the collision repair industry, he has dedicated much of his career to improving industry standards, education and collaboration. His leadership extends beyond ASA, as he has served on the I-CAR Board of Directors, CIECA Board of Trustees, Automotive Management Institute (AMi) Board of Trustees, and the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Board. He has also been an active member of the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) and the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS).

Schnepper’s dedication to education is evident through his Master’s Accreditation from AMi, reflecting his belief in lifelong learning. “Being involved in ASA opened up opportunities to help educate me,” he says. “I’ve always believed in giving back to the industry that has given so much to me and my family.”

A Steady Hand During Times of Transition

Before joining the ASA Board as an affiliate director in 2010, Schnepper dedicated seven years to the Collision Operations Committee. Over the next 15 years, he steadily advanced through the board’s leadership ranks, serving as secretary/treasurer, chairman-elect, and chairman. He later assumed the role of immediate past chair, a position he held for six years. Throughout his tenure, Schnepper provided stability and guidance, helping ASA navigate significant transitions and challenges, including serving the immediate past president terms of Bob Wills and Fred Hules. His deep institutional knowledge, extensive experience, and strategic insight were crucial in rebuilding the organization during pivotal moments in ASA’s history.

His mentor, former ASA Chairman Darrell Amberson, AMAM, has long recognized Schnepper’s steadfast commitment. “Simply put, Roy Schnepper is the best! His immense dedication to ASA and its board is far above what anyone else would or could expect to do,” Amberson says. “Roy’s faith and values drive everything he does. He is incredibly kind, considerate, caring, shows good judgment and speaks with authority and knowledge. He is also incredibly humble and modest. Roy is as high quality of a human being as you would find anywhere.”

Faith, Friendship, and Giving Back

Beyond his professional contributions, Schnepper has made meaningful connections within the industry. One such relationship began over dinner when he met John Eck, leading to a shared faith-based initiative. Together, they started a virtual coffee and prayer meeting, which has continued for over a year and a half, bringing together 20 people from across the country and industry.

Schnepper’s passion for service extends into his personal life. He serves as an elder at his church and is actively involved in Thrilla Gives, a local charity. He also cherishes time with his wife of 48 years, their children, and nine grandchildren, finding joy in coaching his grandsons in Little League.

As he looks back on his time with ASA, Schnepper is filled with gratitude. “I have been blessed to make great friends, gain valuable education, and have the ability to serve during some challenging situations,” he says. His leadership, integrity, and unwavering dedication will leave a lasting legacy at ASA and in the broader automotive service and repair industry.
