Tech Tips (by ALLDATA): Avalon runs rough & lacks power
TECH TIPS (courtesy of ALLDATA)
Vehicle: 2006 Toyota Avalon V6-3.5L (2GR-FE) Automatic Transaxle
Mileage: 128,996
Problem: The vehicle was brought to the shop with the MIL on and a rough running concern. Another shop has already replaced the plugs, air filter and fuel filter, which did not fix the problem.
Details:
The technician retrieved a DTC, P0352 (Ignition Coil “B” [No. 2 Coil] Primary/Secondary circuit fault). NOTE:If there is NO IGF signal to the ECM while the engine is running (1 trip detection), the corresponding DTC will set for the affected coil and the MIL will illuminate. Sometimes there will be multiple ignition coil codes but only one coil is causing the problem.

After inspecting the wiring and connectors to the coils, the technician switched #2 and #4 coils. After switching the coils, DTC P0354 was added to the DTC list.
Confirmed Repair: The technician replaced the bad coil, which was now located on #4 cylinder, cleared all of the DTCs and test drove the vehicle. The problem was resolved and the codes did not return.
