3M team

The 3M Bondo team was honored with the first-place Best Product of ASRW award.

LAS VEGAS — Three exhibitors’ products were named Best in Show at the inaugural Automotive Service & Repair Week (ASRW). Kelly Robinson, Hanley-Wood representative, placed ribbons on three exhibitor displays in the New Product Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 8 — the last day of the show.

Attendees were encouraged to stop by the pavilion during ASRW and vote for the best new product on display. Voting closed at the end of the day, Friday, Nov. 7. All three winners received ribbons on their displays in the pavilion, and Robinson presented the first-place trophy at 3M’s booth.

Here’s the rundown of the 2008 winners and their products that wowed the attendees:

3M Dynamic Mixing SystemFirst Place
3M Bondo, St. Paul, Minn.

Scheduled to launch in early 2009, the Dynamic Mixing System simplifies the process of mixing and applying body filler and finishing glaze, while helping the body shop save time, money and materials on panel repair jobs.

The pneumatic, hand-held applicator gun uses a nozzle with tornado-like mixing action to blend filler and glaze with the correct amount of crème hardener, and then dispense it on demand – eliminating waste, saving time and reducing pinholes, says 3M.

ECS Replacement VIN labelsSecond Place
ECS Automotive Concepts LLC, Ellisville, Mo.

Replacement vehicle identification number (VIN) certification labels are 100 percent exact in appearance to the ones that were manufactured with the vehicle, says ECS. The certification decals are the only manufacturer-licensed and -approved products on the market, adds the company.

Third Place
Sierra Madre Research Group, Arcadia, Calif.

SandfoamSANDfoam is designed for the automotive repair industry as a replacement to ordinary sandpaper. The all-in-one design integrates a sturdy handle with a proprietary abrasive material that continually renews its surface during use, says the company. The sanding products, which perform in both dry and damp conditions, maintain their grit integrity for the life of the tool, are color-coded for grit identification, and are available in different sizes.
