LAS VEGAS — Friday morning at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, an awards ceremony was held to honor numerous industry leaders, including ASA members and scholarship recipients.
Ron Pyle, Automotive Service Association (ASA) president and chief staff executive, moderated the sit-down breakfast and awards ceremony. Members representing the mechanical and collision segments of the industry were honored at the event.
Awards presented included:
- AESWave.com “Building a Learning Culture” Technician Scholarship – Shane Portnoff, Aliso Viejo Auto Service, Aliso Viejo, Calif.
- ASA Chairman’s Club Award (Top Volunteer Recruiter) – Danny Hernandez, Hernandez Collision Center, Savannah, Ga.
- ASA Collision Technician of the Year – Michael Loy, Mike Loy’s Collision, Inc., Lewisburg, Ohio
- ASA Emil Stanley Merit Award Winner – Joe Sanfillipo III, USA Collision Centers, Harrison, Ohio
- ASA Mechanical Technician of the Year – Mark Wagenblast, Mark’s Automotive, Inc., Bend, Ore.
- AVI Education Scholarships – Diane Larson, John Larson’s Service, Inc., Peabody, Mass.; Thomas Piippo, Tri County Motors, Rudyard, Mich.; and Isaiah Craig, Performance West, Santa Rosa, Calif.
- Bodyshop Business Magazine Scholarship – David Solmes, Dewey’s Auto Body, Inc., Hastings, Mich.
- Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship – Vanessa Hayes, Saturn of Tuscon, Ariz.
- Russ Verona Memorial IBIS Scholarship – Jerry Burns, AAM, Automotive Impressions, Inc., Rio Rancho, N.M.
- Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship – Curtis Evans, Evans Automotive Service Center, Inc., Pensacola, Fla.

Automotive Service and Repair Week (ASRW) is being held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center Nov. 5-8. This is the inaugural year for ASRW, which co-locates ASA’s International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) and Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS).
