Check Out ASRW Main Stage
New area offers powerful lineup of compelling industry speakers.
The ASRW Main Stage will showcase a different industry speaker every hour during show hours. A total of 12 speakers will comprise the ASRW Main Stage, with six speakers on Thursday and six speakers on Friday. The ASRW Main Stage presentations will take place each hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“The powerful slate of speakers and topics planned for the ASRW Main Stage make it the first of its kind, and we believe this area will be a staple at the show for many years to come,” said Dan Risley, ASA executive director. “Attendees won’t find these speakers in one place at any other event, and this new area is another great example of why ASRW is the place where the industry comes to do business.”
All Main Stage presentations are available free to attendees. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis as tickets/registration will not be required.
Main Stage speakers include:
MSO Symposium – Wednesday, Oct. 16
The Multi-Shop Operator (MSO) Symposium – a sell-out success in 2011 and 2012 – is back this year! If you own more than one collision repair shop, mark your calendar for Wednesday, Oct. 16. The date for the third annual symposium was chosen based on popular vote from past MSO attendees. The MSO Symposium will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
“The MSO Symposium has quickly become a very important event for the collision repair industry. Holding it in conjunction with NACE, where everyone attending is part of and committed to our industry, makes it convenient, valuable and efficient for shop owners, and we’re looking forward to attending again this year,” said Tim O’Day, president and COO, Gerber Collision and Glass.
Attendance to this highly sought-after event will again be limited to qualified collision repair multiple-location operators (MSOs) with two or more locations. However, new this year, the symposium will open 75 seats on a first-come, first-served basis to single collision repair owners interested in expanding their business.
Content highlights for this year’s symposium will include topics related to leadership, business continuity and succession planning, private equity, MSO panel presentations and discussions on their business, market, financial and strategic focus, and development and insight about international MSOs.
Also new this year, a portion of the symposium will be open to the press. Members of the press will also be permitted to attend the evening networking reception at the conclusion of the symposium.
The 2013 MSO Symposium has been produced in memory of Matthew Ornstein, who produced the event in 2011 and 2012.

He has been involved in the trade as a technician, shop manager, route salesman, compressed natural gas and propane retro fitter, 24/7 service station manager, and an automotive sales and service business partner. He currently owns and operates EuroService Automotive, a four-bay, ASE Blue Seal of Excellence repair facility in Warrenton, Va. He received the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation from the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) in 2007. He served on the ASA national Mechanical Division Operations Committee from 2002-2008 and has led the operations committee since 2010, serving as Mechanical Division director on the ASA board of directors. He has attended CARS since 2001.
“I am most excited by the changes in store for ASRW this year. The opening reception will be on the expo floor, there are some very exciting new educational offerings, and the General Session will be completely different this year. A lot of energy and input has been stirred together to make sure this year’s ASRW is a winner.”
Meet Dan Stander, NACE 2013 Event Chairman
Daniel A. “Dan” Stander, AAM, of Fix Auto Highlands Ranch, an I-CAR Gold Class business, is a third-generation collision shop operator with 30 years of experience. Stander holds the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation from the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) and is a graduate of the University of Colorado. As an ASA member for 30 years, Stander is active in the ASA-Colorado affiliate, currently the president of ASA Colorado’s Collision Division and on the state organization’s board of directors. Stander is also instrumental in ASA’s activities at the national level with his involvement in the ASA Collision Division Operations Committee and its Refinish subcommittee, as well as serving on the ASA board of directors as Collision Division director. He also serves on an industry committee within the Database Enhancement Gateway administrative team and the Database Task Force, with members from AASP and SCRS. Since 2007, Stander has taken an active role as an educational presenter and leader in the collision repair industry during NACE, and has attended the annual event each year since 2007.
“When I first attended ASRW, I knew very few people in the industry. Over the years I have had the opportunity to meet many great people. Every year I meet more. Every year it is more and more comfortable to enter a classroom, be a part of a discussion, speak or just give my opinion … This is one of the best networking opportunities to meet the best of the best.”

Panel Discussions Navigate Important Industry Issues
“Understanding Today’s e-Commerce Parts Solutions” (session WE10) takes place Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. “With the constantly changing e-commerce parts procurement and search engine environment, it is critical that collision repairers understand the impact to their business,” stated Roger Wright, vice president of operations for Sterling Autobody Centers, and moderator of the WE10 session.
“Certification Programs – Are They for You?” (session TH17) takes place Thursday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. “Certification is a term that is grossly overused, and more importantly, under-defined. This session should help attendees learn about the variety of certifications available so they can make the decision as to what works best for their businesses,” said Lou DiLisio, Automotive Industry Consulting, and moderator of the TH17 session.
Looking ahead to next year...
AMI to Honor 20th AAM Class at NACE/CARS 2014
The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) will honor its 20th class of Accredited Automotive Managers (AAMs) during Industry Week 2014, set for July 29-Aug. 2, at the Cobo Center in Detroit.
The prestigious AAM designation is awarded to automotive service professionals after they successfully complete course work and earn 120 credits of management education. Graduates are recognized during a formal cap and gown ceremony, and more than 1,700 individuals have earned the AAM designation, with approximately 100 new graduates each year.
Industry Week 2014 will co-locate several of the industry’s key events, including the International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE), the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS), the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) Conference, and the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) Meeting.
As a result of the anticipated size and scope of the new Industry Week, AMI will not hold a graduation ceremony during the upcoming Automotive Service and Repair Week (ASRW) in October in Las Vegas. It will, however, offer more than 41 AMI-approved classes during ASRW, giving students an opportunity to earn credits toward the AAM designation and potentially graduate in July 2014.
