In accordance with the bylaws of the Automotive Service Association (ASA), this announcement shall serve as official notice of the slate of candidates for the position of general director for the ASA board of directors. This announcement is not a ballot, but a notice of candidates only.

If you are a regular member of the association and would like to have your name placed on the official voting ballot, or if you would like to nominate another member, you may do so by following these steps:

Prepare a petition for candidacy. A petition includes the candidate’s name, shop name, address, telephone number and ASA member number.

Petitions must be completed as follows:

  • A minimum of 250 signatures of ASA regular national members in good standing are required per eligible candidate.
  • Only one candidate can be designated per petition sheet.
  • Only one signature and the corresponding member information can be on each petition sheet.
  • A petition must include the signature and printed name of the member shop representative, as well as the member number, shop name, shop address and phone number.
  • Provided information must be as listed in the ASA database.

Return petitions with a letter stating how many signatures and petition sheets are enclosed. Petitions must be sent to the Automotive Service Association, 8190 Precinct Line Rd., Ste. 100, Colleyville, Texas 76034, Attn: Elections. Petitions must be received no later than the close of business on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.

The names of all candidates with 250 verifiable petitions will be placed on the voting ballot. The new board of directors will assume office after the close of the ASA annual business meeting.

FYI... Gary M. Keyes, AAM, believes his desire to improve the image and professionalism of the industry, his willingness to work and his 40 years of experience in the industry – of which the past 29 have been as a shop owner – benefits his role as an ASA general director. “I have an absolute belief that I can contribute,” says Keyes. He has served ASA in numerous roles including president, vice president and treasurer of ASA-Florida Miami-Dade Chapter (1988-1995), as well as president of the ASA-Florida Treasure Coast Chapter (1999-2001) and member of the board of directors for ASA-Florida (1988-1995). He was also the recipient of the ASA-Florida Paragon Award in 1994. Keyes is currently serving as general director on the ASA national board for the 2011-2013 term. His industry memberships and affiliations include ASA, iATN, Delco TSS and Carquest CTI. He has been an ASE master technician since 1978 and currently serves on the Auto Technology Advisory Board for Martin County High School.

In his own words... “As a member of ASA for the past 29 years, I have gained a lot and met a lot of great people. I would like to have the opportunity to give some of that back to ASA and our industry. I am looking forward to serving on the board of directors for the next two years.”
