Posted 7/16/2012 ASA-Washington Awarded WSAE’s Community Service Award
The Washington Society of Association Executives (WSAE) awarded the Automotive Service Association of Washington (ASA-WA), WSAE’s 2012 Community Service Award – Association. This award recognizes the significant contributions ASA-WA has made to the community through participation, example, leadership and service. Jeff Lovell, president/executive director, accepted the award on behalf of the association at the WSAE’s Celebrate The Stars Awards Program held in Seattle in May. ASA-WA has been making contributions to the community via public service projects, community service and public information since the founding of the association over more than 50 years ago. ASA-WA’s mission is to service and maintain the safe condition of motor vehicles while at the same time preserve, protect and help to create a safe, healthy and clean environment. ASA-WA consists of many devoted members located throughout the state of Washington. As part of its community service involvement, ASA-WA sponsors a “Lights-On” program each October. Held at various locations throughout the state of Washington, volunteers replace defective exterior seal beam or light bulbs on vehicles free of charge. More than 800 vehicle owners took advantage of this annual consumer awareness program in 2011. Clover Park Technical College and New Market Vocational Skills Center sent 30 students to have ASA-WA members teach them how to replace lights and perform inspections. This was ASA-WA’s 30th year sponsoring this community service event.
In addition, ASA-WA members have been involved in several programs to benefit kids. Last year it sponsored the 13th annual Kids First Program, which helped provide jackets and toys to more than 70 kids in need. The program was so well supported that ASA-WA had the opportunity to help two single moms with Christmas gifts for the kids, as well as much much-needed groceries for each family. During the last 13 years, ASA-WA has raised more than $52,000 and helped more than 1,000 kids with jackets, toys, clothes and food. 2011 was the third year for ASA-WA’s involvement in “C.A.S.T for Kids.” C.A.S.T. stands for “Catch A Special Thrill” for Kids Foundation. It is a public charity that was formed in 1991 to join volunteers who love to fish with disabled and disadvantaged children for a day of fishing in the outdoors. The C.A.S.T. for Kids Program is designed to create an environment whereby special needs children and their caretakers could benefit, leaving their problems on shore and sharing in a day of fun on the water that they may not otherwise get to experience. The C.A.S.T. for Kids charity furthers its mission by increasing awareness of disabled and disadvantaged children in communities and teaching appreciation for natural resources.
