AMI Accepting Applications for
CARS, NACE Scholarships

The Automotive Management Institute is accepting applications for six scholarships to be awarded this year.

Three scholarships are for expenses to attend the 2011 International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE) and three are for expenses to attend the 2011 Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS). Both events will be held in Orlando, Fla.,
Oct. 5-8.

The three scholarships for expenses to attend NACE include:

• The Emil Stanley Merit Award, which is awarded annually to an individual who works in an ASA Collision Division member-business and who displays a desire to improve their business skills through education.

The award recipient will receive $1,000 toward expenses to attend NACE 2011.
To be eligible for the award, applicants must work in the collision repair industry, demonstrate an interest in self-improvement through management education, own or work for a business that is an ASA member in good standing and, if the applicant is not the business owner, must be recommended by the business owner.

• The $1,000 BodyShop Business Magazine scholarship, which is presented annually. AMI's resource development effort, EXCEL, in conjunction with Babcox Publications, established the scholarship, which is awarded to an ASA Collision Division member who strives to be, or is presently working, in a management capacity.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must work in the collision repair industry, demonstrate an interest in self-improvement through management education, and own or work for a business that is an ASA member in good standing. If the applicant is not the business owner, he or she must be recommended by the owner.

• The Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship - which, offered in conjunction with ASA, honors the contributions these individuals made to AMI, ASA and the collision repair industry.

To be eligible for the $1,000 award, applicants must work in the collision repair industry, demonstrate an interest in self-improvement through management education, and own or work for a business that is an ASA Collision Division member in good standing. If the applicant is not the business owner, the owner must recommend him or her.

The three scholarships for expenses to attend CARS includes:

• The $1,000 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded annually.
AMI's resource development effort, EXCEL, in conjunction with Babcox Publications, established the scholarship. It is awarded to an ASA Mechanical Division member who strives to be, or is presently working, in management.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must work in the mechanical repair industry, demonstrate an interest in self-improvement through management education, and own or work for a business that is an ASA member in good standing. If the applicant is not the business owner, the business owner must recommend him or her.

• The $1,000 scholarship provided by Automotive Video Inc. (AVI), a leader in automotive diagnostic and repair training programs for automotive repair professionals since 1994.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age, have a minimum of two years work experience in the mechanical repair industry, demonstrate an interest in self-improvement through education and training, and, if the applicant is not the business owner, must be recommended by the owner.

• The $1,000 Zurich "High Octane" scholarship, which Zurich introduced specifically to address the educational needs of the automotive market. A leader in the automotive insurance industry, Zurich provides a range of customized products for the automotive aftermarket.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must work in the mechanical repair industry, demonstrate an interest in self-improvement through education and training, own or work for a business that is an ASA member in good standing and, if the applicant is not the business owner, be recommended by the owner.

Applications must be received by AMI on or before Aug. 15. Scholarship recipients will be notified by AMI on or before Aug. 22. It is OK to apply for more than one scholarship.
