Ron NagyHow’s Your Business?

Posted 12/12/2011
By Ron Nagy, AAM, Chairman

Are you serious!? The holidays are here!? Unbelievable, but true. 2011 is almost over. So as you look at this past year, the question you will always hear and will always ask is: “How’s your business?” This month’s issue is a great way to compare your business with others. And I must admit, this issue of AutoInc. always has me comparing my numbers to those printed on these pages. I want to see how my business compares to others in this industry.

"Because of our membership base, AutoInc. presents the facts from the independent automotive repair market. So when I compare my business, it is entirely to other independent repair facilities."

It can be really confusing listening to the national, state and even local news. Depending on which channel you hear – and at what time – you get so many different angles and opinions on the economy, business and the future outlook. Because of our membership base, AutoInc. presents the facts from the independent automotive repair market. So when I compare my business, it is entirely to other independent repair facilities. So pull out your numbers, grab a cup of coffee, and spend a few minutes and really see how your business is doing.

This issue may also give you your 15 minutes of fame with its ASRW photo recap. Although the Orlando event was a couple of months ago, I still hear unbelievably positive feedback from everyone I talk to about ASRW. And I must admit, I have been impressed with those vendors who swiped my card and contacted me within days of the show to fill my order or take the product or service to the next level. In fact, with the exception of one, they have all contacted my business. Therefore, I must tip my hat to the quality vendors who were at ASRW for their follow up. So take a few minutes and check out the photos (on pages 20-22) to see if you made the photo pages of the No. 1 industry association magazine. If you weren’t there, mark your calendar right now (I mean stop reading, and bring up Outlook and mark your calendar now) … for ASRW 2012 in New Orleans, Oct. 10-13 (with the Expo held 11-13).

Now, I just want to take the last paragraph to thank all those serving in the military and their families for their sacrifices. Although I feel we should remember them every day and every hour, the holidays can be the toughest for those who are serving our great country. And I must add, just as tough for their families who miss them so dearly. This includes their parents, spouses, kids and even close friends. So during this holiday season, say a prayer and send some positive thoughts to the men and women who allow us to have the freedom and own the independent businesses we have. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
