Thanks and GoodbyePosted 5/4/2009
I owe a "thank you" to a lot of you for allowing me to serve as your chairman. I especially want to recognize my wife, Brenda, and the employees at my shop who kept things going while I was away on ASA business. Serving as your ASA chairman was a journey that began 30 years ago. I'm extremely grateful to my local chapter for mentoring me when I started my business in 1979. Then, at the affiliate level, I was encouraged to serve in all positions of governance. Next, I was elected to serve as an affiliate director to the annual convention. From there I was elected as a representative to the ASA national board of directors, and then on to the chairman's position. I say this to encourage each ASA member that you, too, can serve ASA in ways you may not realize. And be sure to hang your ASA sign and use the ASA logo in all of your printed materials. I met great leaders in those early years who encouraged me to serve, and this has been a great learning experience for me. I encourage each of you to participate in any way you can - including within your local chapter or state affiliate, if you have one. A special "thank you" to Steve and Ethel Keller for their support from the start. They have encouraged me all along my journey. I leave you in the great hands of Earl Dohner, AAM, who will serve for the next year as your ASA chairman, assisted by his fellow board members and a capable staff that will help him guide ASA into the coming year. Again, I thank you for allowing me to serve as your chairman this past year.
