Value of ASA Membership

Posted 3/2/2009
By Brie Ragland

A Primer on ASA Benefits from A to Z

ASA Value of MembershipWhy belong to the Automotive Service Association? You may be a nonmember reading this and trying to decide whether you should invest the dues amount into joining when things may be a little tight. Or you may be a member reading this and trying to decide why you should renew. What about the cost of not renewing? Well, to the nonmember and member alike, this issue is for you!

This special coverage in AutoInc. underscores the value of ASA membership and how joining the largest not-for-profit trade association of independent shop owners and managers can help you be more successful. Having been around for almost 60 years, ASA knows a thing or two about what it takes to run a successful shop in the 21st century. ASA is dedicated to - and governed by - independent automotive service and repair professionals.

ASA Code of Ethics

Code of EthicsASA prides itself in having a Code of Ethics, to which all members agree to adhere. ASA's Code of Ethics is the automotive service industry's standard for professional business practices.

View ASA’s Code of Ethics. ASA Member Exclusive: Purchase a Code of Ethics poster to display in your business for only $10. Go to www.ASAstore.com and click on "References."

Value comes in different forms. Value may be found in the management article that you read in AutoInc. recently that offered tips on establishing a good relationship with your jobber to run a more successful shop. Value may be found in ASA meetings that put you in touch with other shop owners who may be experiencing the same kind of employee problem you're facing and will share how they are addressing the problem. Value for some may be found in getting involved politically on an issue to raise awareness in their state. For others, value may be found through the savings AutoZone offers based on the amount of purchases.

To help educate members and nonmembers alike about all of the many benefits that ASA offers, following is an alphabetical listing of the many benefits you can take advantage of as an ASA member. And don't just take our word for it. Throughout the next few pages, there are personal testimonials from shop owners just like you who have experienced the value of belonging to ASA.

ASA Dues Amounts to Stay the Same in 2009

Your membership in the Automotive Service Association is extremely important to us. With economic conditions as they are, the national ASA board of directors voted unanimously to freeze national membership dues amounts, foregoing a potential increase initially discussed for 2009. ASA is committed to helping shops trim their business expenses for the coming year, and freezing dues in 2009 supports that goal.

ASA understands that by not increasing dues for 2009, current members will be better positioned to continue their membership and take advantage of the many money-saving product and service benefits that ASA member shops rely on to reduce business expenses.

Members may also want to take advantage of ASA's Continuous Membership dues option. The payment plan contains no service fee and will allow members to pay annual dues with an automatic credit card deduction either quarterly, semiannually or annually. For more information about this program, call (800) ASA-SHOP, ext. 220.
