Txtng: R U Up 2 Speed?

Posted 6/11/2009
By Earl Dohner, AAM, Chairman

Earl DohnerThis is your new update from your association. HF. I hope you TYT to read & understand this message each month. BTW it's NIMJD and it's NBD. JJA. EOM. GB. (If needed, this paragraph is translated at the end of this message.)

Are you up to speed with your texting skills? Texting is becoming a way of life for many of us in our personal lives. It's quick. It's instant. And it's convenient. Because it's so easy to use, texting is spilling over into the automotive service world quickly.

ASA members I talk to report they are getting more and more text messages from customers and some are even using texting to send service reminders, with pre-approval from their customers.

This past April, the Mechanical Division Operations Committee met at ASA's national headquarters in Bedford, Texas, to discuss various business items. During that meeting the marketing and education subcommittees determined that the method of communicating with customers of younger generations is changing rapidly and therefore new communication methods - such as texting and use of social networks - will be needed. I would venture to guess that texting will become even more popular with time. Perhaps for many of our repair businesses, it may even become a convenient communication tool with our customers.

How are you using texting in your shop? I'd love to hear from you. E-mail me at eegarage@aol.com. Now here's the translation of my "text" message above:

This is your new update from your association. HF (Have fun.) I hope you TYT (take your time) to read and understand this message each month. BTW (by the way), it's NIMJD (not in my job description) and it's NBD (no big deal). JJA (Just joking around!) EOM (End of message.) GB (Goodbye.)
