'You Become Part of What You Are Around'

Posted 3/11/2008
By Aaron Clements, AAM, Chairman

Aaron Clements I have always enjoyed listening to motivational compact discs whenever I can - whether it be while driving to or from work or running errands on the weekends. This is time that can be entertaining or stressful to most drivers, depending on the driving conditions, but it is usually educational for me. One of my favorite inspirational speakers is Zig Ziglar. I have listened to many of his speeches and books on tape, and most of what he has said has stayed with me to this day. One of his many famous quotes that had a large impact on my life is: "You become part of what you are around." While this saying may seem simple, it has always carried great meaning to me.

These words come to mind every time I attend an ASA event. Over the years, I have attended many automotive industry functions. I have found that ASA events, such as the ASA Annual Convention, consistently attract some of the best people in the industry. Once more, because ASA has played such a huge role in the success of these industry leaders, they are more than willing to assist the association with their ideas about current issues. I believe they feel that they are pushing their fellow members to succeed as other members once did for them. Not to mention, they are continually learning more also, and we are all relying on each other to better ourselves, our businesses and our industry. As Zig Ziglar would say, we have all become a part of what we are around, and what a great organization to be a part of.

Now our association has announced yet another opportunity for us to get together to share and discuss our thoughts. It is the 2008 Annual Convention that will be held May 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, Calif. This is our opportunity to clear our mind of our daily tasks and concentrate on long-term issues. An open meeting of the ASA board of directors will take place where many topics will be addressed. In addition to this, Ron Pyle will deliver his annual State of the Association address, and the collision and mechanical operations committees will join together to hold a forum addressing parts issues. These are just a few of the activities that I know would be of interest to all members.

I will certainly be at the convention to be around all of you, the best of the automotive repair industry.

See you there!
