ASA-Washington Honors Dan Flanagan
 |
Dan Flanagan |
At its recent Semi-Annual Retreat and Management Conference in Ocean Shores, Wash., ASA-Washington (ASA-WA) celebrated the retirement of longtime ASA leader and member Dan Flanagan.
Flanagan published The Manifold, a Puget Sound-area trade journal for the auto repair industry, for many years. In 1992, The Oregon Manifold was formed. The Manifold merged into Northwest Motor Edition of Parts & People in 2002, and Flanagan continues to provide editorial content.
Prior to his role as publisher, the 81-year-old Flanagan ran Flanagan Automotive in Seattle for many decades. He retired from the business in 1983. During his years in the automotive service industry, Flanagan helped form the Seattle chapter of the Independent Garage Owners Association (IGO), and in 1959 was instrumental in the formation of the Washington State IGO (later became Automotive Service Councils ASC), which is now the Automotive Service Association of Washington.
With the formation of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in 1972, Flanagan became actively involved in promoting automotive technician certification for many years. Since his retirement as a shop owner, Flanagan has been the Northwest field representative for ASE. He officially retired from ASE in June.
Among his many honors, in 2004, Flanagan received the Lifetime Achievement Award from ASA National.

The Automotive Service Association has contributed $5,000 to support the I-CAR Education Foundation mission. This contribution to the Education Foundation's Industry Partners Annual Fund will support many Education Foundation activities that promote and enhance career opportunities in the industry.
Ron Pyle, president of ASA, said, "ASA is honored to be able to contribute in this way to the I-CAR Education Foundation's education efforts, and the association is fully supportive of the important work the Education Foundation does on behalf of the collision industry and the ASA collision repair community."
"Speaking as a representative of the I-CAR Education Foundation board of trustees and the I-CAR Education Foundation staff, I want to express our deepest gratitude to the Automotive Service Association for its support," said Chris Evans, chairman of the I-CAR Education Foundation board of trustees. "The Education Foundation is proud to have financial contributors like the Automotive Service Association that truly understand the importance of improving career and technical education."
