CARS Web Site Goes Live - Register Now
Mark your calendars now to attend the 2006 Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS). The event will be held Nov. 2-4 at The Mirage in Las Vegas. CARS 2006, sponsored by the Automotive Service Association's Mechanical Division, is an official event of Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW), held annually in Las Vegas. The premier event for automotive service professionals, CARS is unmatched in regard to technical training, management seminars and its exhibitor showcase.
This year's CARS will offer 12 technical courses and three Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminars. Speakers and instructors will include Jim Linder, Bruce Amacker, Jeff Masterman, Chris Chesney, Kelly Bennett, Bob Greenwood and Charlie Polston.
In addition, Tom Easton, senior partner, Essential Action Design Group, will provide attendees the keynote address and Howard Lewis, owner of L&B Auto Repair, Snohomish, Wash. and past ASA chairman, will serve as the CARS 2006 chairman.

ASA-Missouri/Kansas Announces Facility of the Year
During the 14th Annual VISION Hi-Tech Training and Expo, the ASA-Mo/Kan affiliate announced its Facility of the Year winner - S & S Service Center in Kansas City. Owner Jerry Holcom purchased the business in 1982 and has a staff of five. S & S Service Center, which is an ASE Blue Seal facility, has been an ASA member since 1991.
Reminder of the Month
Any national regular member interested in being considered for the Automotive Service Association (ASA) national board of directors should contact the national office and request a Consideration Form. Contact Jo Ann Abramuk toll-free at (800) 272-7467, ext. 211. Consideration Forms must be completed and received no later than July 14, 2006.
The ASA nominating committee consists of Denny Kahler, AAM, Dublin, Calif., chairman; Dan Frohlich, AAM, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Dale Bouchillon, Savannah, Ga.; Don Feeley Jr., Riverside, Calif.; Steve Louden, AAM, Dallas, Texas; and George Witt, AAM, Lincoln, Neb.
ASA-Denton Chapter Co-sponsors GM Update Meeting
The ASA-Denton chapter, in conjunction with AC Delco, sponsored an informative event on May 4 at El Guapos in Denton, Texas. Approximately 30 attendees, representing 15 repair businesses, attended the meeting.
Representatives from AC Delco, Vetronix and GM Training provided attendees with updates on various topics including online training, capabilities of the Mastertek and AC Delco alternators and starters.
"We had a good turnout. The chapter and AC Delco will likely sponsor an additional meeting in the fall," said Rob Burtch, ASA-Denton chapter president and ASA-Texas president.
ASA Offers Scholarship Opportunities
ASA currently offers five scholarship opportunities to assist automotive repair professionals interested in obtaining management training from the Automotive Management Institute (AMI). These scholarships provide assistance to industry professionals desiring to attend either the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) or the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE). Both events are held the first week of November in conjunction with Industry Week in Las Vegas.
