Survey Reveals Spare Time ActivitiesPosted 8/18/2006
By Karin White
A recent ASA membership survey shows ASA members' most popular spare-time activities. Topping the list: spending time with family and enjoying the great outdoors tied at 69 percent, followed by home maintenance (49 percent). Thirty-one percent of members spend time away from home attending various sporting events; 25 percent spend time at automotive racing events.
Twenty-four percent spend their time at community events, and 26 percent like to spend their time at the movies. Just under a quarter of members report vehicle restoration as a favorite downtime activity.
Of the 49 percent reporting home maintenance as spare-time activities, 85 percent expressed interest in member discounts from building material warehouses such as Home Depot or Lowe's. Discounted telephone or DSL programs are significant to another 76 percent of ASA members.
Eighty-seven percent of respondents are shop owners and range between 45 and 54 years of age. Regardless of age, regular downtime is essential to drive stress away and a healthy way for members to enjoy a variety of activities with family and friends - both indoors and out.
